The Branch

I broke the last part of a branch of a tree that was on my balcony, some days back for a purpose. Often, I looked at the branch and sometimes felt sad that I did that because the beauty of it was marred. It looked like it was shriveling. But there was also an expectancy in me of how would the tree respond to this adversity. This was a Gulmohar tree. I had noticed something very interesting in the way the tree’s branch was growing. With every growth, the branch shoots out a node. At the node, there were usually…

Roads

Never before or since  have I looked for a road so desperately, just any road. During Vacation, one of the wonderful experiences I had  was to be outdoors somewhere and spend some time alone early in the morning. Once such morning, after the rains, I was on my bike and was trying to do some bird watching at a decent size pond nearby. The rains had made the path quite wet and as I rode my bike further along the banks of the ponds, my bike stopped. The wet mud had jammed between the mudguard and the tyre. I tried…

Two Bus Stops

One Bus Stop was well built but badly maintained, the other one well built and well maintained. Lately when I was doing a research about a particular company I found that they were into building and maintaining bus stops. It was a strange coincidence that these two bus stops also seemed to be built by this company. I remembered the two bus stops. Here are my thoughts as i reflected on them. The well maintained one was still serviced by them the other one wasn’t for whatever reason. I guess the contract to service wasn’t granted for the second bus…

Two Plants

We experienced friend’s kindness when they gifted us two plants one after the other. One flourished the other didn’t. I used to wonder what led to this unusual difference. We had gifted the first plant to our neighbors and it is still with them and we could see it everyday. The second one is with us. Both the plants were given to us at similar growth stage.  One flourished one didn’t – it set me thinking. I have seen similar patterns in people – some flourishing with time and some deteriorating. One of the directive given to us by the…

Steps

Yesterday on the way out I took the stairs. It dawned on me that the floor was much lower than where I was standing. But since there were steps from where I was standing to where I needed to go, it seemed like a rather simple thing. We often struggle to work on larger projects. This morning was a good reminder of the value of steps. I want to do a lot of things in my life but they all seem so distant. However, steps could be the way I thought. A few interesting things about steps. Firstly, while climbing…

Seeing

The window in my room It has been three to four weeks since I moved into my room in my guesthouse. The room happened to be on the fifth floor. I often look out and the view is pleasant to the eyes. But more than the mere pleasantness, being on the fifth floor gives me a different look. I could see the top of the trees and the birds and the different paths, almost a bird’s eye view. The view set me thinking. Where we are in life influences what we see, why we see and how we see.  As…

Soulitrician

It was a strange sight, never seen one like that before. Using a sealing electrical tape the MC (an electric circuit breaker in case of overload or short-circuit so that it doesn’t damage the other appliances) was pasted in such a way that it would never trip again. The sight was so unique that it set me thinking. I was wondering that this arrangement would defeat the very purpose of having that MC. Also, my thoughts went on to ponder what kind of electrician would have done this. My guess is one who doesn’t want to fix the major problem…
